Study design: Retrospective case review of 37 dogs. Follow-up duration was not specified in the reviewed abstract.
Population and intervention
Records of dogs with chronic idiopathic large-bowel diarrhoea were reviewed. They received soluble fibre (Metamucil) alongside a highly digestible diet. There was no randomised control group.
Findings
Most dogs had a very good to excellent response to the combined regimen, according to the published abstract.
Limitations
This was a retrospective, uncontrolled review. Diet and fibre were used together, so the effect of psyllium alone cannot be isolated. Tuggs products were not tested.
